Machame Route 8-Days

Machame route is the next most popular trail after Marangu and the one that many guides consider the most enjoyable though more difficult than Marangu. The success rate of this trail is higher, possibly because it is a day longer at 7 days and 6 nights which gives trekkers more time to acclimatise.

 

DAY 1 – MREFU ECO-LODGE - KILIMANJARO

On arrival to Kilimanjaro airport and transferred to Mrefu Eco-Lodge for meals and overnight.

 

DAY 2 - MACHAME GATE TO MACHAME CAMP

After breakfast, clients taken with vehicles to Machame gate. Clients start to ascend to Machame camp for meals and overnight. It is almost 7-8 walking hours. It covers the distance of 16-19 km (11 miles). Altitude is 1500 meters (4900 ft) - 3100 meters (10,100 ft). Habitat is rain forest.

 

DAY 3 - MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA CAMP

From Machame camp, clients ascend to Shira Camp. The zone passed through is known as heath zone {Moorland}. Meals and overnight is at Shira camp. The altitude ranges from 3100 meters (10,100 ft) to 3650 meters (12,600 ft). It takes approximately 6 hours and covers a distance of 9-10 km (6 miles). It features Alpine Forest and moorland.

 

DAY 4 – SHIRA CAMP TO BARRANCO

After breakfast, start to ascend into alpine desert, passing through a lava tower before descending to Baranco camp. Meals and overnight taken at Baranco camp.  Distance is 14-15 kms (9 miles), approximately 7 hours to walk. Altitude ranges from 3850 meters (12 600 ft) to 4600 meters (15,100 ft). This area is characterized by semi-desert and rocky terrain.

 

DAY 5 – KARANGA

A continuing ascent from Baranco to Karanga camp site where the guides can take the clients to view the southern walls of Kibo and glacial valleys. Meals and overnight camping at Karanga station. Altitude ranges 3,950 meters (12,950 ft) - 4,160 meters (15,000 ft). It is 4 hours and about 13.3 kms (8 miles) and the habitat is alpine desert.

DAY 6/7– BARAFU - STELA POINT- UHURU PEAK- MWEKA CAMPSITE

This is the end point for porters who are taking the luggage. After few hours rest, the guides with clients, during the night, start to conquer the summit slowly, then turning back to Barafu station to prepare for descending to Mweka campsite for dinner and overnight.

 

Altitude range: 4,560 meters (15,000 ft) - 5,895 meters (19,340 ft) - 3,100 meters (10,200 ft) almost 15 - 16 walking hours and the distance of 30 kms (19 miles) habitats are snow, and glacier. 

 

For your achievement, you will receive award certificates. If you reached Stella Point you will be awarded a green certificate and if you conquer the Uhuru peak you will earn gold certificate.

 

DAY 7 – MWEKA GATE

To finish the tour from Mweka campsite to Mweka gate, almost 3 hours, where the vehicles transfers you to the hotel for hot shower, meals and accommodation. Habitat is forest and is about 15 kms (9 miles).

 

DAY 8- DEPART/OPTION SAFARIS

Here the clients choose to return back to their home place or to request other optional tours (additional fees) such as cultural tours, visiting national parks or travel to Zanzibar for coastal and marine tourism accompanied by a Nature’s Gift Safaris guide.

 

All inclusive price is $2,850 per person.
